What is Xiang Cha?

Xiang Cha is a rather uncommon green tea from Huang Shan. It's similar to our Huang Shan Mao Feng, another, more famous green tea from Huang Shan in taste and apperiance. Xiang Cha is a bit more fragrant while Mao Feng is a bit sweeter.

History of Green Maofeng Xiang Cha

Mao Feng is one of the most popular Chinese green teas with a history of over 200 years. Green tea is an unoxidized type of tea made from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Not all green teas are the same. Flavor, shape, aroma and scent will depend on many factors, including tea plant type, climate, soil and harvesting and producing methods. Not even all mao feng teas are the same. The most popular mao feng comes from the Huang Shan – Yellow Mountain in Anhui province and it's called Huang Shan Mao Feng. Although the Huangshan mao feng tea from the Anhui province is on the top 10 famous Chinese list, it's not the only mao feng tea in China, or even in the world. This tea is produced in other Chinese provinces too, such as Yunnan, Fujian and Zhejiang, and even in other countries. In fact, mao feng may be a black tea too – for example Keemun Mao Feng.

What does Mao Feng Mean?

Mao Feng means fur peak, and it describes the shape and appearance of the processed tea leaves. It contains new unopened tea buds more or less covered in white hair, and a first and second leaf. The authentic mao feng tea should be processed using traditional methods, but not all of them are. Therefore, Huang Shan Mao Feng is a specific type of tea, while any mao feng tea may only tell the shape and/or the quality of some other tea type.

Green Maofeng Xiang Cha

How is Green Maofeng Xiang Cha produced?

Green Maofeng Xiang Cha usually contains one bud and one or two leaves. The best one is always harvested in the early spring and grown on medium-high to high altitudes. Depending on the harvesting time, harvesting method and processing technique, mao feng can have a different shape and color - from longer and lightly twisted leaves to smaller, more twisted leaf shapes. After harvesting, tea leaves are withered, then baked to stop the oxidation, lightly rolled and dried. Most Chinese green teas are pan-fried and almost all Japanese green teas are steamed to stop the oxidation. The technique tea producers use to stop the oxidation has a big impact on the final flavor. That's why Japanese teas are more vegetal and green, while the Chinese are slightly nutty and sweet. This is just one of the things that makes mao feng unique in the world of green teas.

Advantages of Green Maofeng Xiang Cha

Mao feng is a green tea, therefore it shares the same health benefits with other green teas. Green tea contains antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, caffeine and chlorophyl. All of them may have a good impact of your health and provide multiple benefits. The most important benefits of Green Maofeng Xiang Cha are:

6

Promoting hair growth
The first step towards great hair may be brewing yourself a cup of green tea. A study on mice showed that green tea polyphenolic compounds may help regrow lost hair[9] and even prevent losing hair in the first place.

Characteristics of Lushan Yunwu Tea

It's visual appeal, intriguing flavor profile, and unique aroma make this tea a standout. Let's delve a bit deeper into these characteristics.

The appearance of Lushan Yunwu Tea
To the naked eye, Lushan Yunwu Tea is a feast of beauty. The leaves are vibrant green, curled like a snail's shell, and elegantly when steeped in hot water. It's like watching a small piece of Lushan Mountain spring to life right in your teapot. These tiny works of art have a shiny, almost glossy finish, a testament to their high quality and the careful cultivation and harvesting process.

Flavor Profile and Aroma of Lushan Yunwu Tea
Taste-wise, Lushan Yunwu Tea is a head-turner. Each sip is a remarkable blend of sweet, umami, and a slightly nutty aftertaste. It doesn't carry the astringency some other green teas might have; instead, it has a smooth, lingering finish that encourages the drinker to take another sip.
As for the aroma, it's a comforting scent reminiscent of fresh morning dew on a spring day, accompanied by a subtle hint of floral undertones.

Comparison of Lushan Yunwu Tea with Other Green Teas
Now, how does Lushan Yunwu Tea stack up against other green teas? Well, it's like comparing apples to oranges – or, in this case, tea leaves to tea leaves. Each green tea carries its unique traits.
Sencha, for example, boasts a grassy flavor, while Longjing has a more toasted, chestnut-like taste. Lushan Yunwu, however, has this alluring combination of sweetness and umami, paired with a subtle nuttiness that sets it apart.
It's a complex yet harmonious dance of flavours that makes Lushan Yunwu a tea worth exploring for any tea enthusiast.

The Art of Brewing Lushan Yunwu Tea

Like many good things, the pleasure derived from a cup of Lushan Yunwu Tea lies in the drinking and the brewing. It's a journey that begins with selecting the right equipment and ends with you enjoying a perfectly steep cup of tea. Let's explore how to get there.

Choosing the Right Equipment
Selecting the right gear for brewing Lushan Yunwu Tea can greatly enhance your tea enjoyment. Opt for a traditional Chinese gaiwan or a glass teapot to fully savor the tea leaves unfolding.
Alternatively, a basic ceramic teapot works well too, especially for beginners. The crucial point is to keep your vessel clean and free from lingering flavors that might affect the exquisite taste of your Lushan Yunwu Tea.

Optimal Water Temperature for Lushan Yunwu Tea
The next factor to consider is the water temperature. For Lushan Yunwu Tea, water heated to about 80-85°C (175-185°F) is optimal.
This temperature allows the delicate flavors of the tea to be extracted without scorching the leaves. AI uses a simple trick to bring the water to a boil and let it cool for about a minute before pouring it over the tea leaves.

Steeping Time for Lushan Yunwu Tea
The steeping time for Lushan Yunwu Tea is a fine balance. Too short, and you'll miss out on the full depth of flavor. Too long, and the tea might start to develop a bitter taste.
Brew Lushan Yunwu Tea for 2-3 minutes for its finest flavor, but don't hesitate to explore and determine your own ideal steeping time. The pleasure of tea lies in uncovering your perfect brew!

How to Store
Once you have your Lushan Yunwu Tea, proper storage is key to maintaining its freshness and flavor.
I've experimented with different storage methods, and what works best is storing the tea in an airtight, opaque container, away from light, moisture, and strong odors.
Remember, green tea is delicate, and exposure to unfavorable conditions can adversely affect its taste and aroma. Treat your Lushan Yunwu Tea carefully; it will reward you with a delightful brew every time.
